Prepare the body for your winter hobby!
Skiing is a fun and exciting hobby. Prepare yourself ahead of time with stretching and strengthening exercises.
Take yoga classes to practice rounding out the strength, flexibility and balance, you already have.
Respect the body and its limits so you may enjoy skiing all winter long. (and we all know how long winter is!)
What is happening to the body during skiing:
There is undue strain on the knees
The spine is being compressed due to slight bumps in the slope
The neck and head are unstable causing pulling and strain
We balance ourselves constantly to stay upright and not fall. These jerks to the body can cause many lasting injuries
A fall could cause many injuries
Benefits of Yoga for skiing:
Strengthens the legs
Strengthens the muscles around the knee for better support in unexpected turns
Strengthens the core of the body for better positioning down the slope
Creates more consciousness, allowing mental concentration throughout the day, even when tired.
Creates more mindfulness, so you know when the body needs a rest.
Prepares the body for the "jerks" a body makes when trying not to fall.
Helps to keep you from losing balance when shifting weight from side to side
Balances your overall body.
Create strength and flexibility in the neck.
Helps in overall prevention of injury.
